Three Irish medtech companies have been awarded €7 million in shared funding from the latest round of Horizon 2020 SME Instrument funding.

The competition received 1,280 applications from all over Europe, with 64 projects going on to be granted €110 million in this round.
AuriGen Medical, a medical device company aiming to help treat atrial fibrillation, took first place and has been awarded €2.5 million to help develop its device.
Second place was awarded to Atxa Therapeutics, a company working on novel therapies for pulmonary arterial hypertension and third place was given to Metabolomic Diagnostics, an early-stage medical diagnostics company dedicated to improving women’s health.
Irish companies have been granted almost €62 million to date through the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument, which assists companies with innovative ideas by helping them scale up internationally.
Congratulating the three companies, Imelda Lambkin, national director for Horizon 2020 said: “Ireland’s highly innovative SMEs have a strong success rate in Europe for the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument and we are delighted that three more have won significant funding in this round. The success of Irish companies at a European level is built on Enterprise Ireland supports which aim to develop the innovative solutions and capability of SMEs to win Horizon 2020 funding.”
