Who’s who in microtechnology at MD&M West?

MD&M West 2019 will see plenty of companies who have a background in microtechnology exhibiting their products in Anaheim, California.

The international joint booth of the IVAM Microtechnology Network in Hall C will have high-tech companies from Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Spain and the USA, and will be presenting their products and services within the special exhibition area "Micro Nanotech" at MD&M West.

A list of the companies can be found below:

AEMtec provides technologies for complex, custom (opto)-electronic applications for medical applications. The company’s portfolio features chip-level technologies, including wafer back-end services, chip on board, flip chip, 3-D Integration and opto-packaging for medical devices. The company´s range of services also includes an extensive suite of development services as well as the production of test equipment and series production capabilities.

ams Sensors Germany will show its components of the world’s smallest digital camera: the NanEye miniature camera module. Measuring just 1x1 mm in size, the NanEye sensor provides a true system on chip camera head with fully self-timed readout sequencing. The sensor could be used for non-invasive internal viewing and provides delay-free, smooth video for clinicians working in areas such as endoscopy and laparoscopy.

Bartels Mikrotechnik is located in Germany and specialises in innovative applications of micro systems technology (MST) in the business area of medical technology. Bartels provides different types of micropumps. Micropumps transporting the tiniest amounts of gases or liquids can be considered the heart of microfluidics.

C.I. TAKIRON is a Japanese manufacturer of precision motors using knowledge of magnetic materials. The company has developed high-performance precision motors that are used in items such as medical and optical devices, robots and other industrial equipment. Their product range includes coreless and brushless motors from Φ4.0 mm to Φ22.0 mm, spur and planetary gearheads from Φ12.0 mm to Φ22.0 mm as well as magnetic encoders from 4 to 8 ppr.

CorTec enables communication between the nervous system and artificial intelligence with its technology, providing individual components like flexible electrodes or high-channel encapsulations together with electronics and software. The company’s Brain Interchange technology is an implantable system that records and stimulates brain activity chronically for long-term use. As a closed-loop system, it can control stimulation online based on brain activity recorded simultaneously.

Ebnet Medical, founded by Jens Ebnet, MD, DESA, a specialist in anesthesiology, intensive care and emergency medicine, develops medical technologies inspired by practice. Ebnet Medical specialises in catheters that deliver life-saving drugs, infusions and blood products to patients quickly, simply and safely. Flagship development project is Swordcath, a system that greatly simplifies the insertion of catheters.

The Fraunhofer Research Institution for Microsystems and Solid State Technologies’ micropumps meet a range of requirements in the field of medical technology. The silicon pump models with a minimum size of 3.5 x 3.5 x 0.6 mm3 and high-pressure abilities enable new products in the field of diabetes, tumour, hormone or pain therapy systems as well as implants. The larger stainless steel micropumps are mainly used in infusion and vacuum therapy for the treatment of chronic wounds. The piezoelectrically driven pumps are self-priming, bubble tolerant and sterilisable.

HNP Mikrosysteme provides precise pumps and smart solutions and offers the development of OEM pumps, comprehensive application-specific consulting and technical support. The company produces micro annular gear pumps, which are used where fast and highly precise dosage is required. Five series guarantee a flow rate from 1 µl/h to 1152 ml/min. HNP offers mzr-pumps which are characterised by low pulse delivery, minimal dead volume, long service life, small dimensions, powerful materials and ease of maintenance. The products can be applied amongst others in the field of life science and analytical instrumentation.

Micro Systems (UK) is a specialist in medical, biotech and optical micro-moulding solutions, including moulds, plastic parts and complete systems for drug delivery, medical diagnostics, surgery and inhalation. Further capabilities include ultra-precision multicavity moulds and nanostructuring.

microLIQUID S.L. has positioned itself mainly in the areas of OEM and ODM of microfluidic cartridges and instruments, IVD and bioscience and cell culture over the last few years. microLIQUID proves itself as a one-stop provider of end-to-end bioscience solutions. Starting with design and proof of concept, the company works with partners from development to mass production of potentially fully certified IVD or pharma products. Having worked on thousands of research and development projects as well as on large-scale ones, microLIQUID provides a unique combination of skills.

Osypka Medtec is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and works with medical device manufacturers and suppliers to manufacture innovative, high-quality product solutions. The company provides device technology using the latest state-of-the-art design, manufacturing equipment and methods to meet customers’ expectations, while maintaining compliance with regulations and industrial standards. Osypka has the capability to design, develop, validate and manufacture finished medical implants, including AIMD.

Penguin System will present its EmerSim device at the fair. EmerSim is a compact device for emergency and lifesaving training aiming to increase the number of successful emergency responses. It simulates the vital sign monitor using only a dummy and LCD monitor, TV, notebook, tablet or smartphone. With Penguin System’s EmerSim, low-cost training preparation can be achieved. The instructor can change the monitor's signs with a single tap on a preset vital sign set. Blinking values, alarm sound and responsive vital sign monitor create training situations with presence of emergency.

MD&M West takes place between 5-7 February.
