Mediplas Keynote Speaker Urges Medtech Suppliers to Get ISO13485

"Please, please, please" were the words uttered by Chris Dyke, connectivity director at UK trade association Medilink, when referring to the importance of having the ISO13485 quality standard in medical manufacturing.

Chris was addressing the UK's leading lights in medical plastics at the opening day of the Mediplas trade show in Birmingham in the key note speech at the free conference session at the event.

Following the presentation, Chris spoke with Medical Plastics News managing editor Sam Anson and expressed that he felt that companies for whom medical manufacturing is key should seek to achieve ISO13485 almost as a necessity. He said that when large OEMs ask him about his members almost always one of their first questions is whether they have ISO13485.

He went on to say that he felt that a helping hand from the government would be hugely beneficial to the UK medtech industry to assist manufacturers making the step from ISO9001 to ISO13485.

The first day of Mediplas also hosted a number of other exciting topics today including a guide to polymer sterilisation, contact lens manufacturing, plastics machining and twin shot moulding.
