Medical devices park to focus on electronic equipment manufacturing

Construction of the Indian medical devices park, that will focus on the manufacturing of electronic equipment, is expected to start in the first week of April, reported The Times of India

The park will be built in Vizag and will produce consumables, disposables, electronics, equipment, implants, diagnostic reagents and surgical instruments for the medical sector.

The Times of India reported that an industry source, said: "Medical devices such as X-ray machines, MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging) and other such equipment are likely to be manufactured at the park."

The park will include a manufacturing facility with an exim promotion office, regulatory approval and licensing office, virtual CAE (computer aided engineering) simulation lab with experts, prototype development centre, incubation centre and converging local medical events, the news site reported.

An Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) official said: "The medical devices park is planned to be spread over approximately 200 acres near Nadupur in the district.

“The site has been found to be favourable by the representatives of the medical equipment manufacturers also when they visited the city a few months ago.”

Speaking to the Times of India, the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) forum coordinator Rajiv Nath, said: "The CM is gung-ho in ensuring success of this project and he desired that the Vizag Medical park should be among top 3 medical devices manufacturing hub in the world instead of top 5 as was being proposed by AiMeD."
