Manchester conference fuses business and science

by

Exploring the development and commercialisation of science, ‘The Business of Science conference’ is taking place today (19 May) at Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry

The Business of Science event is aimed at individuals and organisations involved in science, technology, research, development and its subsequent commercialisation who would welcome engaging in discussion about technology, maximising returns, organisational development and the resultant skills agenda, according to event host, Science North.

Leading up to Manchester's celebrations being "The European City of Science", the Business of Science conference is offering case studies from businesses and investigate original research comparing innovation and invention.

Manchester has been the home of science discoveries for many years - from splitting the atom and the early development of computers to the discovery of Graphene.

The successful commercialisation of science along with the associated development of skills has long been a key driver of economic growth, which will only continue to accelerate as technical developments gather pace, according to Science North.

Speakers at the Business of Science event include Nancy Rothwell, president of the University of Manchester, Neil Murray, CEO of Redx Pharma, Ian Shott, executive chairman and managing director of Arcinova and Claire-Marie Boggiano, founder and director of Lurig Change and Development.

They are exploring themes such as organisational development to deliver financial returns from science, the skills agenda for science and economic growth from science.

The Business of Science conference will culminate by taking a countrywide view of the importance of science to the economy before returning to reflect on the future of Manchester’s science legacy.
