Industrial parks for medical device manufacturing are being proposed by the Indian government

The parks will be India’s first industrial zones dedicated to medical device manufacturing and will be located in Gujarat and Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu.

The park in Gujarat will have a manufacturing facility centre for SMEs and an ecosystem for medical device manufacturing aimed at import substitution as well as export opportunities.

India is currently importing around 69% of its total requirement for medical devices according to the Business Standard.

In addition, the Indian government is also implementing a new pricing strategy for imports and revising medical device regulations in favor of production within the country.

The decision to set up the park took place at a tripartite meeting between sate and central government with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in attendance.
