China clamps down on illegal device websites

According to a report on Xinhua, China's food and drug watchdog has blacklisted ten websites for containing false information on medical devices. Products included medical devices to treat infertility, epilepsy and prostate problems.

In a statement, writes Xinhua, the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) says the websites forged the names of medical equipment manufacturers and posted information of fake medical devices for sale, posing severe health risks.

The SFDA has posted a statement on its website saying the matter has been transferred to relevant authorities.

China has been highlighted as offering a major growth opportunity for the medical device sector. Currently, foreign companies represent 80-90% of the high-end Chinese device market and capture about 60-70% of total device spending.
