What to expect from Porex at MD&M West and beyond

by

With MD&M West around the corner, what can our readers expect to see from polymer solutions provider, Porex during the event? MPN editor Laura Hughes caught up with Avi Robbins, Porex's vice president of product development and research and development to find out.

Please can you tell me more information about the seminar Porex is hosting on porous polymers in healthcare applications during MD&M West?

In the “Master the Secret Weapon for Product Performance: An Introduction to Porous Polymers” seminar we’re hosting, Avi Robbins, vice president of product development and research and development, Porex, will explain the power of porous polymers, which are the unknown science inside many of the products we use every day.

Porous polymers provide key functionalities to products as diverse as colouring markers and diagnostic tests. The seminar will uncover ways these porous materials can improve product performance across diverse healthcare applications from medical devices to diagnostics to wound care - and help companies achieve market differentiation.

Perfect for design and manufacturing engineers who either have a potential product concept or need to fix a problem with an existing product, this session will explore the differences between the three core polymer technologies: Sintered porous plastics, bonded fiber and open-cell foam, and how they are used inside finished products to properly absorb, apply, diffuse, filter, vent or wick.

The seminar is open to all attendees and scheduled for 2pm, February 11th in room 207A.

Are Porex hosting anything else during the event?

Beyond our educational session, Porex is holding individual customer meetings with design engineers and medical device manufacturers during the show. They’ll have an opportunity to meet with our experts, ask questions and get advice about material selection to improve product performance or solve a technical challenge.

Where can visitors at the show find representatives from Porex?

While we’re not exhibiting this year, Porex will still have a significant presence at MD&M West.

Our product experts and our sales team will be walking the show floor, as well as holding individual customer meetings in our private meeting room. Porex prides itself in partnering with companies to help solve their product design challenges and turn their product ideas into reality.

Avi’s session would be a great opportunity for product manufacturers, design engineers and brand managers to learn more about the benefits of porous polymers, their key functionalities and how they can improve their product’s performance. If they have questions after the session, Avi and other product experts will be there to answer them.

What are the key differences involved in the manufacturing process of Porex’s polymers compared to your competitors’ polymers?

Using our material expertise and proprietary technologies, we design and produce a wide array of advanced porous materials, which exhibit a broad range of thermal, chemical, mechanical, and electrical properties. Global market leaders in healthcare, consumer, and industrial product development and manufacturing rely on our custom porous polymer components because of the high reproducibility of our manufacturing processes.

Porex sintered particle materials are engineered from various polymers with controlled pore sizes to provide outstanding strength, durability, chemical resistance, resiliency, and design flexibility across multiple applications.

For our bonded fiber, our production methods utilise synthetic fiber binding processes to produce parts cost-effectively and with a wide assortment of extruded profile geometries. This process results in a blend of polymeric fibers bonded together for ideal fluid handling capillary structures.

We also have open-cell foam technology, which is developed using proprietary or customised blends of raw materials created through a clean polyurethane process without the use of catalysts. The resulting different formulations offer wide-ranging densities, porosities, and levels of softness to meet our customers’ requirements.

By partnering with companies to better understand their needs and desired outcomes, we can help them select a material that maximises the performance of their products – whether it be to fix a current design issue or enable the innovation of a completely new product.

Our free monthly webinar series provides more information on porous polymers.

Will Porex be at any other events during 2020?

Porex plans to have a presence at several global events this year. While we won’t be exhibiting at all of them, Porex will have representatives from our sales and marketing teams attend, present and/or exhibit at various medical, diagnostic and healthcare related trade shows, as well as other events in other industries, throughout the US, Europe and Asia.
