What Tekni-Plex will be presenting at PackExpo Las Vegas

Global manufacturer and developer, Tekni-Plex is set to exhibit unit-dose pharma packaging solutions and new films for medical devices at packaging trade show, PackExpo Las Vegas, in September later this year.

Following Tekni-Plex’s acquisition of Lameplast, the company will be discussing semi-automatic and fully automatic Pentafill fill/seal machines for its injection moulded unit-dose packaging. This two-step technology is currently represented in the United States by Lameplast’s LF of America subsidiary, and claims to provide a benefit-rich alternative to the traditional one-step, blow/fill/seal approach.

With the Lameplast system, fillers receive pre-made vials which claim to provide a higher level of precision, functionality and quality control compared to blow/fill/seal. Because they are injection moulded, instead of blow moulded, Lameplast claims that the vials offer a more attractive physical appearance (no burrs), uniform orifice/drug delivery, flexible closure design and printing capability, ability to injection mould with barrier materials versus only one material, more uniform wall thickness, and reclosability.

These are all attributes that are not thought to be possible when the unit dose vial is blown, filled and sealed in one stage. This system is suitable for multiple fields and applications including pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical device, veterinary and cosmetic applications, with an emphasis on ophthalmic, vaccine, vaginal and rectal applications.

At the event, Tekni-Films will also be featuring TekniMD PX films - a series of proprietary high-performance, thermoformable copolyester films that provide an alternative to PolyEthylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) for medical device packaging. Tekni-Plex claim that the standard PX film is suitable for form, fill and seal applications, while PX MED has superior denesting characteristics and is used as a substitute for silicone-coated PETG.

Tekni-Films will also be discussing its SBC 240 film line as a performance and improved-cost alternative for 4- and 6-mil PolyChloroTriFluoroEthylene (PCTFE) laminations and cold formed foil for blister applications at the show. SBC is created by applying a next generation, high-barrier Polyvinyl diChloride (PVdC) coating to a lamination of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and polyethylene. The PVdC is dispersed in an emulsion, which has been engineered as a surface coating.

This thermoformable film is equipped with moisture and oxygen barrier properties and designed to meet the needs of pharmaceutical and other healthcare applications. The triplex structure is suitable for applications such as pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, probiotics and other related products.

Tekni-Plex’s Tekni-Films business unit will be attending PackExpo Las Vegas, from September 23rd - 25th on booth N206 in Las Vegas Convention Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
