UK medtech companies find success in Texas

Medical technology company FutureNova has announced that its FlipPad case, which enables clinical staff and surgeons to use iPads in sterile environments, will soon be on sale in Texas.

The case protests medical practitioners and patients from the risk of healthcare associated infections (HCAI). The device’s antimicrobial glass coating helps minimise the spread of infection.

FutureNova has reported it is forecasting sales of over $4.8 million from the US and $8.5 million before the end of 2017.

Last year FutureNova showcased its technology in the United States as part of a British Medtech missions. Now the company is working alongside Apple to line up a number of US distributors.

A second UK company, Mediplus, who specialise in urology and anaesthesia products, has also seen success in Texas. The company is set to work with a number of specialist distributors to launch a selection of new products in the US. The company is also working with a Texan company to give patients quicker access to patent centric healthcare solutions.

In the past year there have been three UK Medtech missions to Texas, helping bring over 20 UK companies to the region.

Over the last 12 months, there have been three UK Medtech missions to the State of Texas, which have brought over 20 UK companies to the region.

The missions have been organised by the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) - the industry association for the medical technology sector in the UK - and is supported by the UK government.

Paul Benton, international director from ABHI, said “It is so great to hear outcomes like this when UK and Texan companies are working together to deliver better health outcomes for US patients.

“Texas was chosen for the mission as it is an economic powerhouse. It is the seventh largest health economy in the world and has significant ambition to be a global healthcare and life sciences player over the next decade. We have more missions lined up throughout the year and have a number of exciting projects planned between the UK and Texas. Watch this space!”
