Trelleborg Sealing Solutions showcasing micro moulding capabilities at Med-Tech Innovation Expo

Manufacturer for the healthcare and medical market, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions will be showcasing its micro moulding capabilities at the Med-Tech Innovation Expo this April.

Visitors at the show will be able to see Trelleborg’s unveiling of the methods used behind its Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) micro moulding capabilities.

The company will showcase how it uses micro and nano technology in the manufacturing of components below 10 milligrams in weight and how flashless production is made possible through needlepoint injection technology and fully automated parts handling.

Trelleborg will also display the smallest LSR component that the company manufactures. The device, a septum is the membrane in the cap of a medicine bottle through which one can insert and withdraw a syringe. The moulded weighs just 0.003 grams and is manufactured using flashless production methods.

Ursula Nollenberger, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions product line director for LSR Components, said: “We are always pushing the envelope in tool and process design. Our global team thrives on developing the tiniest precision tooling, finding ever-more innovative solutions for the dosage of ever smaller weights and devising new process automation tools to handle and control such small parts.

“As our LSR Centre of Excellence is located in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, where there’s always been a watchmaking industry, we have a special tradition of dealing with tiny and complex components.”
