Technimark opens Innovation Centre

Provider of custom plastic packaging and components, Technimark, has announced the opening of its new Donald F. Wellington Innovation Center at the company’s Asheboro, N.C. campus.

The facility is named after Technimark’s founder Donald F. Wellington who started the company in 1983.

The Innovation Centre includes a complete production lab to perform prototype manufacturing of new products along with customer offices and meeting rooms, a board room and other workspaces.

Kevin Hedspeth, senior vice president of Global Technology & Development said: ““Devised and built to consolidate Technimark’s design and engineering staff from across the company, the Innovation Centre embodies everything we’ve learned from 32 years of developing innovative solutions. It will ultimately house 50-plus designers, process and automation engineers and materials development experts to serve our clients’ expanding needs.”

The Centre also includes full video and web conferencing; an array of cameras in the manufacturing area so customers remotely can watch their product as it’s made; and 3D-printing capabilities for rapid development of prototype tools and parts.

“What really distinguishes the Innovation Centre is that Technimark has combined our design and engineering capabilities with on-site prototype manufacturing,” said Mr. Hedspeth. “That means we can help our customers envision how they want their packaging to look and function and then follow that process through to completion in front of their eyes.”

Technimark CEO and president Brad Wellington said: “The Donald F. Wellington Innovation Centre will help us continue to expand our capabilities, enhance our culture of continuous innovation, and stay on top of our clients’ current and future needs. For the last 30-plus years, we’ve never lost sight that our success depends on our customers’ success,” he said. “In short, it’s what we’re all about.”

Over the last year, Technimark acquired Ci Medical Technologies, a manufacturer of injection-moulded components, assemblies and devices used in the medical, pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare markets. The company also established a new commercial division, Technimark Healthcare, which focuses exclusively on servicing health care and medical customers.
