Prent wins WorldStar’s 2015 Silver Sustainable Packaging Award

The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) has named Prent Corporation’s 2015 WorldStar medical package a Sustainable Packaging Award Silver Winner at the MD&M East Exposition in New York.

Prent’s 2015 WorldStar winner is the Verata diagnostic conorary guide wire package created for Volcano Corporation. It incorporates multiple features designed to save resources for the medical device company, hospitals and the environment.

The Verata package is made from fully recyclable PETG material. Over 99% of the trim scrap and excess material used in production is re-ground and supplied for use in new product. The tray footprint was intentionally designed to be smaller that the overall size of the product in order to reduce the amount of plastic used. The features in the Verata’s tray secure and organise the product replace tape and other materials, thus reducing the potential waste associated with the package.

The WorldStar Award is the pre-eminent International award in packaging and Prent’s packaging was the only medical package given a Sustainability Award. Awards are only presented to those packages which, having already won recognition at national competition, are compared by an expert panel of judges to similar packages from around the world. Awards are based on the judges’ consensus that a package is superior in its own right and better in its class in execution or innovation by comparison.
