Plastic Industry Awards name its Ambassador of the Year for 2019

Nigel Flowers, president of the Polymer Machinery Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PMMDA) and managing director of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag was named Ambassador of the Year at the 2019 Plastic Industry Awards.

Flowers, who has worked within the plastics industry for over 40 years was presented with his award by Eastenders actor Shaun Williamson. Flowers began his career as a maintenance engineer and rose through the ranks to be appointed managing director of the UK division in 2006.

Upon receiving his award, Flowers commented: “We have a responsibility to the environment and future generations to continue to work to reduce the impact of plastics. This will be driven by a combination of design innovation, making recycling or disposal easier, manufacturing to reduce the amount of polymer used without compromising on performance and identifying new materials and waste saving production processes. All things our industry excels at.”

Flowers concluded: “As we move into 2020, sustainability, labour, productivity, energy resources, waste and automation will be areas where we can all learn from one another.”
