One in six Irish SMEs lack online presence – bad broadband to blame?

New research finds that 17% (one in six) of Irish SMEs still have no website, social media, or online presence.

The study, conducted by IE Domain Registry, in conjunction with Ignite Research, looked at the digital presence of SMEs in Ireland, which is long established as a regional hub for business in the medtech sector.

The findings indicate that despite a majority of Irish customers buying online, many businesses aren’t truly engaging with digital opportunities.

One possible explanation is broadband infrastructure, which IEDR claims is keeping one in four SMEs currently without a website offline.

What’s more, according to the respondents, over half of those currently offline “have no intention of building a website in the near future”.

This is despite three out of four purchasers stating that they’re more likely to purchase from a business operating online.
