New sensor for respiratory applications hits the market

Sensor technology manufacturer, Sensirion, has introduced its new flow sensor SFM3019 to the market.

A dedicated team of developers have been working to create a new sensor for respiratory devices that allows easy integration into ventilators and a very high scalability, due to a rise in the global demand for sensors for ventilators. The end product, the flow sensor SFM3019, is now for sale after its introduction to the market and will aim to help respirator manufacturers to cope with the high demand. It is not only optimised for respiratory applications, but also available in high volumes.

Marc von Waldkirch, CEO of Sensirion, said: "Sensirion's DNA is a mix of innovation and incredible team spirit. Especially in times like these, we can experience the pronounced solidarity throughout the company. Promoting health has always been a big driving force at Sensirion. This is why we not only aim to maintain the production of existing sensors for respiratory devices under observation of the highest safety and hygiene measures, but also to realise innovations at the same time so that we can provide even more sensor technology for life-saving respirators.”

The flow sensor SFM3019 is available in both digital and analogue versions. The digital version can measure both oxygen and air as well as a mixture of both elements with the highest accuracy. Like all other Sensirion sensors used in medical technology, the SFM3019 is based on the established CMOSens Technology, and was developed on the basis of existing components that have been tried and tested for years to ensure reliability and precise measuring.
