Ian Lucas, MP of Wrexham, today visited Porvair Filtration Group’s (PFG) Research and Development (R&D) laboratories in Wrexham

Porvair Filtration Group provides materials and products for applications in filtration and separation for the medical sector.

Roy Rigby, general manager of PFG Wrexham and Dave Cowieson, head of new product development: biosciences, at PFG Wrexham gave Lucas an informative presentation of its range of technologies, including their BioVyon porous plastic materials.

PFG’s BioVyon plastic is used for a variety of medical products from nasal spray vent filters to solid phase extraction columns. BioVyon is biocompatible to USP class VI and is approved to FDA 21 CFR and EC-directives.

After the presentation Rigby and Cowieson gave Lucas a tour of Porvair’s R&D facilities including its cleanrooms where PFG produce filters that use BioVyon and insert polyethylene powder into it.

Cowieson said: “We had to develop all our own machinery to do that insertion process at a high speed so that’s all home-grown technology that we’ve had our engineers develop on site.”
