Medical grade plastics to be produced using wind power

Polymer compounds specialist, Melitek, has signed an agreement to switch all of its energy consumption to renewable supply, according to the Renewable Energy Certificate System (RECS).

The agreement is entered with energy company, SEAS-NVE, who will supply Melitek with 100% green energy produced from wind power.

Kim Laursen, managing director of Melitek, commented: “Melitek would like to contribute to the switch to renewable energy and take an active role in reducing CO2-emission.

“It has always been in our company’s DNA to offer medical grade plastics with good environmental profile, and as such the switch to green energy supply marks a milestone in our strive to manufacture our products under the best conditions.”

Christian Ellekær, key account manager from SEAS-NVE presented the Renewable Energy Certificate to Meliktek. Talking about the news, Ellekær said: “Melitek’s switch to wind power energy equals a total CO2 saving of almost 1.000 ton CO2 annual with the current consumption.”

“It makes total sense for us that we ensure our polyolefin based products which are designed for easy recycling, and that often replace polymers with poor eco-profiles such as PVC and various engineering resins, are now produced using solely wind power”, concluded Jesper Laursen, business director of Melitek.
