MDM East announces MDEA award winners

The winners of the Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) have been announced at the annual awards ceremony.  

The MDEA ceremony, sponsored by Philips-Medisize, was held alongside MD&M East at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre in New York and recognises the technological achievements of medical device manufacturers.

The awards cover a total of nine categories, with gold, silver and bronze medal winners in each group. Best in show and 2017 readers’ choice winner were also announced at the ceremony.

Dr. Robert E Fischell was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the medical technology industry. Fischell has founded 15 public companies and has produced work on pacemakers, defibrillators, coronary stents and more.

Winners were picked by an impartial selection of judges, who based their choices on design and engineering innovations, functional innovations, benefits to overall healthcare, benefits to patients, and competitive.

In the Digital Health Products and Mobile Medical Apps category, The Levo System Otoharmonics took the award for offering sound therapy to better patients’ quality of life.

Canfield Scientific took the Readers’ Choice award for its Vectra WB360 3D imaging system. The system is designed specifically for dermatology and captures most of the skin’s surface so clinicians can map, treasure and track pigmented lesions and monitor diseases of the skin.

Best in show was awarded to Linx by Blatchford. Linx is the first fully integrated microprocessor controlled lower limb system in the world. Linx also won top place in the Rehabilitation and Assistive-Technology Products category.
