Porvair Sciences announces Vyon porous plastic materials range

Porvair Sciences, a producer of high-performance filtration and separation technology is hoping to drive medical and healthcare device innovation with its range of Vyon porous plastic materials.

Vyon is a highly versatile porous plastic whose surfaces can be modified to give them hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties or enhanced to achieve specific chemical and biochemical separations.

Additionally, Vyon also aims to offer excellent inherent properties for venting by allowing closed environments to breathe whilst maintaining bacterial resistance. This is thought to be a key property in a wide range of medical applications and highly desirable.

The hydrophilic version of Vyon has been shown to give enhanced benefits when used with aqueous solutions.

Unwanted fluid transmission is prevented by the addition of a material to the Vyon composite material that is able to swell on contact with aqueous solutions, resulting in an effective shut-off valve being produced.
