Hymid invites schools to facility in mark of National Manufacturing Day
As part of Make UK’s National Manufacturing Day, Hymid, an injection moulding specialist, has invited four schools to send Year 10 students to their facility to take part in several activities designed to create interests in STEM fields on 28th September.
The students will have access to multiple areas of the Hymid business and will have an opportunity to team up in groups of five and take part in a design competition – with the added bonus of winning a Chilly’s water bottle. The winning design will be 3D printed and presented at the school assembly.
15 students from each school (60 in total) will attend across two sessions, taking part in various activities around the business – including production, supply, tool, room, etc.
As well as enjoying a day of activities and games to learn about the business, a number of local politicians will be attending the event. Kevin Foster, MP for Torbay, one of the local councillors, Mandy Darling and a representative from Make UK will be in attendance.
A representative from SWMAS, manufacturing and business development experts, will also be in attendance who will be running a torch-building exercise.

Make UK’s National Manufacturing Day is a nationwide event, with companies across the UK opening their doors to the public whether it be students, school leavers, graduates, people looking to reskill and local residents.
The National Manufacturing Day has grown exponentially since last year with over 200 companies involved - why is this?
Last year was the inaugural year and it's expected to grow each year. The sister organisation, NAM in the US, took a few years to build up its following for it’s national day of celebration which is now one of the most successful recruitment tools in the manufacturing sector across the US.
With import competitions and advancements in technology and automation, it’s important to keep interest flowing within the manufacturing industry.
Whether it be a student still unsure on what they want to do in the future or a graduate looking to find the right company for them or someone who previously worked in the industry and wants to re-join, opening the doors to a business can spark all sorts of passion and interest.
