Non-occlusive airway dilation balloon set to arrive on UK market

A non-occlusive airway dilation balloon, manufactured by South African-based Disa Medinotec (Pty) Ltd, is set to arrive on the UK market.

The device, called ‘The Trachealator’, can be used on both adults and children for treating airway stenosis and allows continuous ventilation in patients, thanks to its design and construction.

The Trachealator non-occlusive airway dilation balloon, distributed in the UK exclusively by DP Medical Systems, features a cluster of balloons that expand at a high-pressure rating (RBP 12 atm) around a central open channel.

The award-winning device re-folds easily for extraction, has markers for visual and radiographic positioning and, with a working length of 650mm, it can be inserted through a rigid bronchoscope. A guidewire is included on all units.

“Traditional dilation balloon catheters completely obstruct the patient’s airway when inflated, whereas the non-occlusive device has been cleverly designed to allow for continual ventilation during airway stenosis treatment.
