Bionic leg kick-starts new treatments

A company credited with developing an anti-gravity treadmill has entered the market for healthcare devices with what it claims is the world’s first Bionic Leg.

AlterG, the firm behind the leg, reports that it is the only wearable, battery-powered robotic device that senses the user’s intent to move and responds accordingly. An assistive device, the group says that patients learning to walk again can benefit from accelerated recovery with the leg.

The leg is specifically designed for patients recovering from strokes, injury, orthopaedic surgery or traumatic brain injury.

 “The Bionic Leg is a crucial piece of equipment for stroke rehabilitation and therapy for patients with chronic, degenerative neurological gait impairment including Parkinson's disease and Multiple Sclerosis (MS)” said John Hammond, EMEA Clinical Specialist “It’s excellent that we can to now offer the benefits that the Bionic Leg delivers to the US to the UK population.”
