It's a date: Medilink UK Healthcare Business Awards and Med-Tech Innovation Awards
This year’s Medilink UK Healthcare Business Awards, once again taking place alongside Med-Tech Innovation Expo, will celebrate the best-in-class talent and innovation from across the sector. The awards ceremony will take place on 28th September 2020.
The host
Paul Sinha is a medically-qualified, critically-acclaimed international stand-up comedian, and has been for many years. He has performed several well-received solo shows, has had two national tours, performed in Beijing, Munich, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Tokyo as well as many non-Olympic cities around the world.
In addition, Sinha has carved out a career as a professional quizzer, including becoming a regular Chaser on ITV’s ‘The Chase’ since appearing in 2011.

Medilink UK Healthcare Business Award Categories:
Collaboration with the NHS award
For the development of a collaboration with the NHS that has or will have a major impact or benefit to both business performance and patient care.
Export Achievement Award
For outstanding performance in international trade.
Innovation Award
For the development of an innovative technology, design or process that has produced a major improvement in business performance or end-user benefit.
Outstanding Achievement Award
For an achievement that has had a significant or vital impact on the company.
Start-Up Award
For newly-established companies (trading for up to three years) in the medical and healthcare sector, that show a promising future.
Med-Tech Innovation Award Categories:
3D Printing Award
Awarded to the entrant who has demonstrated how the use of 3D printing has enhanced or fundamentally improved the design or manufacture of medical devices.
Connected Health Award
The winner will have played a part in the design or manufacture of a cutting edge connected medical device.
Design Award
The winner will have demonstrated how design principles have been used to create a futuristic solution to meet a clinical need.
Engineering Award
Celebrating an idea which resulted in a breakthrough or improvement to the manufacture of a specific product or component.
Materials Innovation Award
Awarded to the entrant who put forward a new and ground-breaking medical material, or an example of an application in which material choices was pivotal to the success of the final product.
The Judges - Medilink UK Healthcare Business Award Categories
Bill Cruise, chairman, Medilink UK
Cruise has a career spanning 30 years, the majority of which has been spent outside the UK.
He has worked in several of 3M’s business areas, including Industrial Markets, Electrical and Healthcare, across Germany, Asia Pacific, Belgium and the US.
Laura Hughes, editor, Medical Plastics News
Hughes is the editor of both the European and North American issues of the Medical Plastics News magazine. She has spent her entire career to date working within medical publishing; more recently specialising in the areas of cardiology and ophthalmology.
Matt Chapman, knowledge transfer manager medtech and manufacturing, Knowledge Transfer Network
Chapman has been involved with medtech R&D for over 20 years, and leads on medical technology for the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN). He works with healthcare companies across the UK, supporting them in navigating a complex innovation landscape.
Dr Neil Ebenezer, medical technology specialist, Department for International Trade
Ebenezer’s role includes developing and implementing the global strategy for medical technologies across inward investment and exports. He has held roles in the civil service including: the Department of Health where he contributed to Blood Safety and Genetics policy; was the head of New and Emerging Technologies at the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

Mark McIntyre, senior director of health economics and government affairs, Boston Scientific, EMEA
McIntyre joined Boston Scientific in 2003 with responsibilities that included relations with Government and Opposition, the DoH, NICE, patient advocacy groups, clinical professional groups and the media, to promote the benefits of minimally invasive medicine.
Ana Avaliani, head of enterprise, Royal Academy of Engineering
Avaliani heads up the Enterprise Hub team at the Royal Academy of Engineering supporting technology entrepreneurs on their journey of setting up and growing innovative engineering companies.
Leigh Cornock, director of R&D, RDT, A Philips company
Cornock has a PhD in Electronic System Engineering from the University of Essex and has been working in industry on electronic product research and development for 15 years, with over 13 years focused on medical device development. Cornock is also part of the IET Healthcare Technologies Executive Committee.
Dr Tom Beale, CPhys, commercial development manager – Med-Tech, The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI)
Prior to joining CPI, Beale worked in the NHS developing medical devices for commercial exploitation, working on multiple projects from point-of-care diagnostic devices, to implantable brain simulators.
Dr Darren Clarke, chief executive, Medilink East Midlands
Clarke has been with Medilink East Midlands, since 2004. In his role as chief executive, he has successfully overseen the development of the company into one of the key players in the Medilink UK network.
