Hurricane Maria to hit medical manufacturing island of Puerto Rico

A range of high-profile medical manufacturing companies are in direct line of Hurricane Maria, as the storm heads for the island of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is home to large medical manufacturing facilities for companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Medtronic, Stryker, CR Bard, Abbott Medical Optics and more.

There are over 70 medical device manufacturing plants in Puerto Rico, producing a range of products in the surgical and medical instruments, ophthalmology, dental, orthodontics industries and others.

Hurricane Maria is set to hit Puerto Rico on Wednesday morning, Bloomberg reported, going on to state that the number medical manufacturing companies on the island is due to tax incentives.
