GW Plastics announces expansion following business growth

Advanced contract manufacturing and injection moulding company GW Plastics, announces the expansion of its Royalton, Vermont manufacturing and technology centre in response to its growing medical device business.

The expansion is claimed to be 30,000 ft in order to accommodate the growth of GW Plastics’ thermoplastic injection moulding and medical device contract assembly business.

As part of the expansion, GW Plastics will be adding a new 13,000 ft class 8 cleanroom capable of housing an additional 30 injection moulding machines, and an additional 17,000 ft of warehousing space.

The expanded facilities will accommodate immediate growth for GW Plastics’ thermoplastic moulding business and will allow the company to expand affiliate GW Silicones’ cleanroom moulding operations.

The organisation expects to add over 30 new jobs as a result of this expansion, and invest over $10,000,000 in construction, new technology, and equipment.

GW Plastics first established its Royalton, VT facilities in the late 1980s with the relocation and expansion of its mould-making division, followed by its process development centre. GW Plastics then further expanded its Royalton site with a thermoplastic moulding facility in 1999 and silicone moulding facility in 2008. This announcement marks the fifth expansion in Royalton since GW relocated and expanded its mould-making division. GW Plastics Royalton was the company’s fourth thermoplastic moulding facility to launch after its headquarters in nearby Bethel, VT and advanced operations in San Antonio, TX and Tucson, AZ.

Royalton has become the company’s main manufacturing and technology centre. The 24-acre campus houses GW Plastics’ product development centre, process development and training centres, mould-making division, GW Plastics Royalton moulding facility, and GW Silicones. The manufacturing and technology centre houses some of GW Plastics’ most sophisticated technology, including 3D printers for plastic and steel as well as robotically-assisted injection moulding and contract manufacturing. With the latest expansion, the manufacturing and technology Centre will cover 90,000 ft of advanced manufacturing space.

This expansion follows the news of another expansion at GW Plastics’ Sligo, Ireland facility. GW Plastics established its first European location with the purchase of Avenue Mould Solutions in 2017, and announced in February with Prime Minister of Ireland Leo Varadkar an expansion in response to increased demand in its medical device and drug delivery business. Both expansions in Ireland and Vermont hope to enhance GW Plastics’ precision mould-making, advanced injection moulding, and contract manufacturing capabilities around the world. GW Plastics claims to be able to provide a wide array of advanced manufacturing capabilities on three continents.

Brenan Riehl, President and CEO of GW Plastics said: “On the heels of a major expansion in Ireland, we are delighted to announce this expansion in our home state of Vermont, reaffirming our commitment to growing in Vermont and the United States while serving the needs of our customers globally. We are proud of our team and our history of consistent growth in Vermont and around the world.”

GW Plastics will be at MD&M East 2019 in New York from June 11th to 13th on booth #1715.
