Eucomed has launched the ‘Don’t lose the 3’ campaign to lobby the European Parliament to ensure that the dynamism of Europe's healthcare industry remains a priority when debating the proposed changes to medical device regulations. The number 3 refers to a three-year advantage currently enjoyed by Europeans in terms of the time that it takes a device to get to market in Europe compared with other countries and regions.

A Eucomed spokesperson told Medical Plastics News

"Today in Europe, people have access to life-saving medical devices three to five years sooner than other parts of the world. The reason for this is Europe’s unique decentralised device-specific approval system, which has proven to be as safe as other systems in the world and is saving and enhancing many lives every day.

However, some voices in Brussels want to radically change the system causing us to lose our 3-year advantage. What’s worse is that research shows that these radical changes will not make the system safer for patients.

Many groups and experts in Europe, including doctors, patients and industry, agree that the current European system needs to be improved to cope with new medical technologies and innovations. But let’s keep what works and fix what needs to be improved instead of radically changing the system.

Eucomed has launched the ‘Don’t lose the 3’ campaign to showcase the advantage that patients in Europe currently enjoy and explain what changes need to be made to the current European system to make sure that patients continue to have timely access to safe, lifesaving medical devices. See Eucomed’s website for more information about what the industry thinks that needs to be changed."

Via the campaign, Eucomed aims to showcase the advantage that patients in Europe currently enjoy and explain what changes need to be made to the current European system to make sure that patients continue to have timely access to safe, lifesaving medical devices.

To show your support, Eucomed advise visiting the website and lobbying your European member of parliament to support the group's motion.
