Engineer jailed for stealing designs from Boston Scientific

An engineer has been sentenced to a year in prison for stealing medical device designs from Boston Scientific

Aaron Quoc Khieu, a former Boston Scientific engineer, helped design a heart catheter that inflates surgical balloons inside blood vessels to open blocked arteries.

According to The Washington Times Khieu used a USB flash drive to steal the catheter designs and manufacturing data that belonged to Boston Scientific and tried to recruit investors for a new company.

Federal prosecutors argued that Khieu should service five years in prison for stealing the design which the company spent more than £2.7m ($4m) developing, reported The Washington Times.

Khieu pleaded guilty to stealing the design and was charged with 14 counts of trade secret theft and wire fraud, earning him a year in prison.
