DePuy Synthes goes beyond the implant

Device maker DePuy Synthes promises to go ‘beyond the implant’ with two new services that doctors can offer patients after orthopaedic surgery.

Firstly, the group is offering a subscription-based service called CareSense, a software solution that enables health care providers and institutions to collect and analyse real-time data.

With CareSense, patient outcomes, patient satisfaction and cost information can be collected and evaluated before, during and after surgery, to help optimise care.

The system makes it easy to conduct market research, administer patient satisfaction surveys, benchmark against peers, and analyse financial metrics.

The second product is the video-based Patient Athlete. This program claims to help joint replacement patients learn how to fully recover, in terms of energy levels and outlook.

The program includes self-guided lessons that a patient views four weeks prior to surgery and eleven refresher lessons to complete post-surgery.

The Patient Athlete Program was piloted in three cities and a survey of these patients found that more than half of the patients felt they recovered more quickly and were less fearful of surgery because of the program.

It uses science-based tools and techniques developed by the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute for training top athletes, surgeons, CEOs, and others looking to optimise their performance in work and life.
