Conference to explore 'bio-based' classification semantics

by , , ,

The 2014 European Bioplastics Conference has announced details of this year's programme. More than 30 delegates will discuss key topics, with speakers including Helmut Maurer (European Commission, DG Environment), and Virginia Janssen (Europen).

One of the sessions will see speakers debate which new feedstock is most relevant for present-day applications. The session covers perspectives from research institutions and companies on upcoming or currently in use second and third generation renewable feedstock. Another session will include a panel discussion on biobased labelling. The panellists will include Ron Buckhalt (US Department of Agriculture, BioPreferred Program), Dr. Oliver Ehlert (DIN CERTCO), Isao Inomata (Japan Bioplastics Association) and Salvador Ortega (ANIPAC Mexico). The session will be led by Bruno de Wilde (OWS).

Finally, the well-documented semantic and classification issues surrounding products “being bio-based” will be examined during a workshop titled “How to certify biobased content in bioplastics”, which will be led by the secretary of the CEN Working Group 411, Harmen Willemse.

The European Bioplastics Conference will take place 2nd-3rd December 2014 at The Square, Brussels, Belgium.
