Companies collaborate to develop surgical knee simulation training

A company specialising in virtual surgical training have released a new simulation focusing on patient-specific knee implants.

Simulation based training company Touch Surgery has collaborated with implant manufacturer Episurf Medical to create the Episealer surgical training simulation.

The new simulation is available on the Touch Surgery app which offers surgeons the chance to practice their operations in a virtual setting. Surgeries on the app include, neurosurgery, transplants, appendicectomy and more.

The new app is suited to Episurf’s Episealer platform, which specifically addresses knee lesions and joint pain problems. The app replicates the benefits of the Episealer implant, which is built to patient-specific requirements.

The two companies collaborated to build a training platform which uses three simulations, allowing the user to experience and attempt to perfect the surgeries.

Dr. Jean Nehme MD, co-founder at Touch Surgery, said: “We’re honoured to have partnered with Episurf to create a simulation for one of the most innovative procedures in knee orthopedics, available to anyone, anywhere in the world”. The global reach Dr. Nehme mentions can be seen in Touch Surgery’s user population, with users in every country in the world.

“As a young dynamic med-tech company focused on innovation and surgical education, Episurf Medical immediately recognised the same qualities in Touch Surgery as a high-end provider of state-of-the-art surgical simulations. It has been a fruitful partnership and we are delighted with the outcome. Most importantly, the Touch Surgery platform will give us access to a global community of orthopedic surgeons previously unavailable to us”, says Rosemary Cunningham Thomas, CEO, Episurf Medical.

The Touch Surgery app is available on iOS and Android for free.
