Three trends to lookout for in embolic protection devices market

by

Emboline, a name in the embolic protection devices industry, has recently launced Emboliner, an embolic protection catheter, from the capital it raised in 2021 which was worth $55 million.

The design enables the product to have increased reliable positioning across the cerebral vessels and is easier to put in. According to a report by Global Market Insights, the market outlook of embolic protection devices is speculated to account for $2.5 billion over 2022-2030 in terms of revenue.

While research and developments in embolic protection devices are expected to remain at the forefront for industry expansion, advancements to new trends and opportunities would complement the business landscape.

1. Rise in cardiovascular disease prevalence

The population today is battling with severe health challenges, including cardiovascular diseases, given their sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. It would be imperative to mention that CVDs are one of the leading causes of death globally, claiming nearly 17.9 million lives almost every year. This has compelled heart patients to undergo cardiology procedures.

Reliable reports suggest that more than 1 million cardiac operations are being performed every year worldwide. It has been claimed that many of these surgeries involve high risks of complications leading to fatality due to blockages in valves. This has paved way for the adoption of embolic protection devices as the equipment helps reduce the number of complications due to release of debris into bloodstream that is responsible for blockages in smaller vessels, leading to cardiac arrest and heart failure. How EPDs work is that they capture and remove debris that may be dislodged during procedures.

2. Increasing use of distal filters

One of the widely preferred embolic protection devices, distal filters are now gaining prominence worldwide, given their ability to allow steady blood circulation through the pores of the filters. An important point to note here is that these filters can be used for up to 5-10 minutes, offering additional time for procedures.

It has been reported that distal filters have potentially reduced the procedure-related stroke risk by 50% in several registries, providing new opportunities for product development. As per industry analysts, the distal filters market is poised to reflect a CAGR of more than 8% through 2030.

3. Inclination towards surgical procedures in ambulatory surgical centres

The demand for surgical procedures in ambulatory surgical centers is gradually rising. This can be attributed to the many benefits ASCs have to offer to medical operators, including:

Less wait times

Decreased cost

Relatively lower risks of infection

Higher nurse-to-patient ratio

These merits have led to a prolific surge in cariology procedures in the healthcare setting. It has been reported that cardiology procedures in ambulatory settings observed a 10% in 2018. In fact, as admissions in hospitals grew during the COVID period, ASCs observed a phenomenal growth in surgeries, standing as a lucrative ground for embolic protection devices market.
