Global materials science specialist, Milliken & Company, is helping to produce medical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The shortage of plastic materials that are readily available for use in protective face shields is resulting in some manufacturers using polypropylene plastics which can be hazy. Milliken is able to offer its NX UltraClear polypropylene concentrate for PPE. This material claims to be suitable for use within face shields for those working within the healthcare industry.
Halsey M. Cook, president and CEO of Milliken & Company, said: “In this global pandemic, the need for medical PPE continues to rise.
“We are committed to finding solutions that assist our customers and allow us to join in the fight against Covid-19 wherever we can make a difference.”
In order to evaluate NX UltraClear for this application, Milliken has collaborated with a number of plastic manufacturers. Companies who are using NX UltraClear concentrates to make polypropylene clear for use in face shields includes Impact Plastics in the United States and Mezger in Germany.
The medical face shields made with NX UltraClear polypropylene are reportedly now on the market and being used by front-line workers.
