The visit has been arranged by the UK’s medical technology industry body, the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) and the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT).
The surgical device was co-invented by University of Houston physicist, Professor Audrius Brazdeikis and medical device company, Endomag. The device is just one of British healthcare technologies being highlighted in Texas.
The British visitors will be met by clinical leaders at the Baylor College of Medicine, Harris Country Hospital, Biomed SA and the US Military, amongst more, in the hope of developing long term relationships. One of the goals of the visit is for British medical technologies to be used by clinicians across Texas to improve patient care.
Professo Brazdeikis, said: “The technology is a great example of Britain and Texas working together to improve patient care. The system is extremely innovative and can help surgeons locate breast cancer tumours before they can even be felt. The device received FDA approval in April this year and, with the support of this British mission, we expect it will be used by surgeons in Houston very soon.”
The UK visitors will include members from organsations such as, Department for International Trade,The British Foreign & Commonwealth Office, manufacturer of medical devices Timesco Healthcare, global manufacturer Owen Mumford and more.
Speaking about the visit, Baylor College of Medicine’s Stuart Corr, director of technology development, said: “Texas and the UK have a successful and collaborative history, sharing many core values and goals. We believe that by building strong relationships with the United Kingdom, whose expertise and reputation in health and life sciences is world class, together we can improve patient outcomes, efficiency, and productivity across both of our health systems. These are essential elements of a successful, happy, and healthy society.”
