French medical technology startup Miravas has exhibited the first device which uses water vapour to treat varicose veins in the operating room at Medica 2016.

Varicose Veins
Named VBox, the device uses an endothermic technique for its mechanism of action to provide heat into the vein. This causes obstructing collagen fibres in the vein to retract.
VBox uses a hand-piece to deliver steam treatment, sufficiently heating the body of sterile water within the hand-piece so that it turns into steam. The water vapour is then injected into the vein through a catheter or needle.
Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic by angiologists or vascular surgeons and is a quick and easy process.
The device is intended to be used for the millions of people who are affected by venous diseases and varicose veins. VBox is a minimally invasive technique to maximise patient comfort. It is available to angiologists and vascular surgeons in Europe through its CE certification.
