VetPen
UK-headquartered injector pen manufacturer Owen Mumford, one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of medical devices, has produced what the company describes as the world’s first insulin pen specifically designed for diabetic cats and dogs—VetPen. Working in collaboration with manufacturer of pharmaceuticals for animals MSD Animal Health, Owen Mumford has designed the pen for pet owners to help them manage their pets’ diabetes more easily. The company says that it has done this by making insulin injections simpler, more accurate and less time-consuming.
Convenient and More Accurate
Similar to insulin pens for human diabetes, VetPen offers pet owners an easy-to-use alternative to traditional syringes and vials. Now, instead of having to draw insulin into a syringe, they can place a pre-loaded insulin cartridge inside the pen, making the whole process more straightforward, quick and most importantly, accurate. Owen Mumford’s precise instrumentation reduces the risk of user error and makes selecting the correct dosage as simple as turning a dial, providing the right amount of insulin every time.
Easy to Handle
VetPen is said to be sturdy—making handling easier—which is of particular benefit to any pet owner with poor eyesight, arthritis or unsteady hands. This also helps to reduce the risk of accidental needle stick injuries.
Two sizes of VetPen are available—one with 8 units of insulin for cats and small dogs and one with 16 units for larger dogs. VetPen is available through reputable veterinary practices in the UK, the rest of the EU, and Switzerland, and will be launched soon in other countries throughout the world.
