Reuters has reported that two US hospitals are preparing to launch trials with diabetics and chronic disease patients using Apple’s HealthKit which provides a link between patients the information accessed by doctors.
HealthKit is still under development. Regulated medical devices, such as glucose monitors with accompanying iPhone apps, can send information to HealthKit and with a patient's consent, doctors will be able to take the data from health apps for easier one-place viewing.
Reuters writes that Stanford University Hospital doctors said they are working with Apple to let physicians track blood sugar levels for children with diabetes. Duke University is developing a pilot to track blood pressure, weight and other measurements for patients with cancer or heart disease. Ultimately, the aim is to improve speed and accuracy and allows doctors to highlight problems before they happened.
